Prototype space suit materials made by STF Technologies are en route to the Moon following the successful launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Firefly Blue Ghost 1 mission on January 15th, 2025. The STF-treated space suit shell textile will be exposed to the Lunar environment as part of the Regolith Adherence Characterization (RAC) experiment mounted on the outside of the Firefly Blue Ghost lander. The RAC experiment will determine how Lunar dust particles adhere to the wide array of materials that will be exposed to the environment during a Lunar mission. In addition to spacesuit materials, the RAC is testing materials for solar cells, optical systems, coatings, and sensors. You can learn more about the RAC experiment and materials here. The mission is currently scheduled to land on the Moon on March 2, 2025.
STF Technologies is grateful for the support from NASA, and the technical and experimental integration efforts from Aegis Aerospace that made this exciting Lunar materials testing opportunity possible.
